    Bank of Canada Economic Update

    Dear members and subscribers,

    We are delighted to welcome Calista Cheung, Regional Director (Economics), Bank of Canada. Calista will present the Bank of Canada’s latest outlook for the global and Canadian economies, risks to the outlook, and factors behind recent interest rate decisions.

    Speaker: Calista Cheung
    Regional Director (Economics), Bank of Canada

    Calista Cheung was appointed as Regional Director (Economics) at the Bank of Canada's Regional Office for British Columbia and the Yukon in June 2014. In this capacity, she directs research and analysis on economic and financial developments in the region. She also plays a major role in communicating the Bank's messages to a variety of external audiences and promoting an exchange of views on the economy and monetary policy.

    Ms. Cheung first joined the Bank in 2003 as an economist in the Current Analysis Division of the Research Department and then became a senior analyst in the Asia-Europe Division of the International Department. She moved to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris in 2009 as an economist in the Economics Department and was subsequently promoted to senior economist there. Ms. Cheung has also worked at the European Central Bank in a secondment, and at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston as a research intern.

    Ms. Cheung was born in Ottawa. She received a Master’s degree in Economics from Boston University and a Bachelor of Commerce with Joint Honours in Economics and Finance from McGill University.

    Negative Interest Rate Environments: Perspectives from an Economist, a Treasurer and a Banker

    AFP Edmonton is delighted to join our friends at TMAC Toronto in virtually welcoming Michael Dobner, partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers' Consulting & Deals Group and the National Leader of the Economics & Policy Practice, Michael Eberhard, Corporate Vice President and Treasurer of Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP) and Jude Leclerc, Canada Head of Global Liquidity and Cash Management (GLCM) Products for HSBC, to discuss negative interest rate environments.

    This panel, consisting of a banker, an economist and a treasurer, will be moderated by Cathy Pin, Canadian Head of Global Liquidity and Cash Management Client Management, HSBC. This panel will provide a broad perspective on the economic drivers that can potentially cause a negative interest rate environment, a global perspective of negative interest rates, how treasury can prepare for and react to negative interest rate environments and how banks are helping their clients in these environments.

    The event is eligible for 1.2 CTP credits.
