It has been three whole months since COVID-19 took over our lives and changed how we do everything! The virus brought to a sudden halt all events and gatherings and, as a result, effectively ended our 2019-2020 luncheon series.

We are still very dedicated to bringing value and education opportunities to our members and have some exciting news!

First of all, in light of the impact to our schedule and on our members' budgets, we are extending all base memberships through to June 2021. If you are currently a member, your only costs will be for any actual events you might attend. If you are not currently an active member, you will soon be able to sign up at zero cost for this year. Please note that membership fees will apply at renewal in the summer of 2021 so be sure to allocate that in your budgets.

Secondly, We are proud to announce an amazing collaboration with other AFP/TMAC organizations across Canada and are pleased to offer, free of charge, a number of upcoming webinar events and presentations. I'd like to give a big shout out to AFP chapters in VancouverCalgaryOttawa, and Montreal as well as TMAC Toronto who have all come together to support treasury events and education in this time. We are hopeful that this is the beginning of a long lasting and strong national presence.

Thirdly, The AFP Edmonton AGM and elections will be held in the autumn. We are looking for a number of people to join the board and to bring fresh energy and ideas and to support our collaboration with the other Canadian chapters. If you have an interest in leadership and want to help strengthen the Treasury and Finance Community in Edmonton, we want you. Interested parties can email info@afpedmonton.com to get the process started.

We have also lined up Todd Hirsch of ATB to kick off our season in September. We hope to have this event live, but will host it as a webinar if conditions do not allow for a luncheon.

Event 4 - Bloomberg and Credit Risk - Time TBD

As a consequence of the earnings upheaval caused by the pandemic, corporations have focused more resources to understand the heightened credit risk with their vendors and clients.

Bloomberg has modeled a real time understanding of how to think about this risk and have an expert speaker on the topic.  With the ongoing uncertainty in credit markets and corporates finding it essential to have rigorous real time credit analytics by their side to navigate these markets, we think it could be timely to consider.
