AFPC Edmonton is pleased to feature Marie Cavanaugh, Managing Director, Sovereign Group with Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services .

Standard & Poor's will discuss recent sovereign rating trends, focusing on how the landscape is shifting for rated sovereigns in G-20 countries, as well as for sovereigns in the Eurozone. The session will include a discussion of sovereign rating performance and touch on the factors that drive Standard & Poor’s political, economic, external, fiscal, and monetary analysis.

Marie Cavanaugh is a managing director in Standard & Poor’s Sovereign Ratings Group and a participant in many sovereign rating committees globally. The group determines Standard & Poor’s credit ratings on central governments, multilateral lending institutions, national development and export-import banks, and other sovereign-supported public-policy-oriented entities. Marie also contributes to the assessment of sovereign and country risk in non-sovereign credit ratings.

In the recent past, Marie has served as Global Sovereign Criteria Officer and Global Sovereign Quality Officer, with responsibility for criteria development and quality metrics for the Sovereign Ratings Group.

Prior to moving to the sovereign area, Marie had analytical responsibility for credit ratings of regional and local governments outside the United States. Before joining Standard & Poor’s, Marie was an economist for the City of New York and earlier for Data Resources, Inc., an econometric consulting and forecasting firm. She holds a Masters in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and an A.B. summa cum laude in mathematics from Mount Holyoke College.
