Ruth McHugh, MBA, FCMA

Ruth is the Executive Director – Corporate Services and Office Accountability for the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta, and Co-Chair of the Alberta Accountants Unification Agency. Just prior to being elected Unification Agency Co-Chair, Ruth served two consecutive terms as Board Chair for CMA Alberta. In this capacity Ruth represented Alberta on the CMA Canada Council of Chairs, where she also served a term as Vice Chair of the National Council of Chairs, in addition to numerous other governance roles within the accounting profession.

In conjunction with her CMA provincial and national involvement, Ruth was a member of the CPA Governance Working Group, whose role was to propose the governance structure for the new merged unified Canadian accounting profession. The governing principles struck by the eight member task force have gone on to form the basis of the Collaboration Accord adopted by CPA Canada.

From the beginning, Ruth has taken a strong leadership position in advancing unification of the accounting profession in our province and in our country, and in 2011 received the FCMA designation for her distinguished service to her fellow CMAs and the accounting profession in Canada.

Under Ruth’s leadership, the Alberta Accountants Unification Agency will drive the changes required to achieve the vision of a united accounting profession in Canada
